About this deal

I would put the quality of the DT1990 Pro way above almost anything that was available for studio use until 10 years ago (and that includes monitors) unless you were willing to invest tens of thousands in monitors and room treatment. I don’t think there’s such case with 1990 Pro because to me it sounds like Beyerdynamic really cranked audio production aspect to 11.

These headphones share some similarities with their predecessors, but for the most part, the DT 1990 PRO are better in every meaningful way. The DT 1990 Pro’s bass is also quite fast, making its bass almost as detailed as on the planar-magnetic LCD-1 and Sundara. To clear some context, I looked up the definitionof "sibilant" and found that it meant creating a "hissing" sound like that of (ss) or (sh). It’s not often we listen to a headphone that impresses us so much that we stay up until 2 am rediscovering my favorite albums. We listened to record after record with the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro to see what unheard details the headphones would reveal. Here is where I might go off track in comparison to many of the other reviews regarding these headphones. The Beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro are brilliant headphones that deserve room in any music lover’s headphone collection. The sound is a little colored in the treble which may result in producing slightly darker mixes if this feature is forgoten. At the same time, vocal and instrument timbre becomes a lot more correct and realistic to my ears - beating out the HD600 and Focal Clear.

Some people actually say they like the Beyerdynamic treble, where as other think those people are crazy, or deaf, or both.

At some point in your life, you may have heard about the beauty that is German engineering, and the Beyerdynamic DT 1990 PRO are a prime example of that. which can result in highlighting sibilant sounds; when it comes to mixing, this could be very useful (since it helps in spotting issues e. The headset we’re looking at today, the DT 1990 Pro, are an open-back version of the Beyerdynamic DT 1770 Pro, which won our Editor’s Choice for its imaging, design and value for the money. The timbre of the midrange was also very good; it was very natural, and a great improvement over the DT 990 Pro’s slightly metallic timbre.

The only complaints I have for comfort is that the clamp force on these is a little high out of the box, and it put a bit of stress on my jaw. Ones who own them praise them (obviously), while others seem to resent them because of the infamous "Beyer treble" banner hanging over a good number of models they have (particularly the DT series). My main test track for this is Hotel California MTV Live performance given I've listened to that song hundreds of times, so I'm familiar with it's positioning and layering. The sound signature of these two headphones, along with their strengths and weaknesses, are completely different between themselves, therefore I am not going to go into comparisons between them, I am going to focus on what I think of the DT1990 itself and the circumstances in which I actually use this headphone. MAXIMUM COMFORTThe perfected design of the DT 1990 PRO combines innovation with decades of expertise in headphone technology. They are also my pair for Gaming and gotta say I was becoming paranoid for first few days because in military simulations where sound effects are just very well made everything was so distinctive that I thought someone is throwing a grenade under my character every single minute. That said, while listeners who are sensitive to energetic highs may not like the highs of the DT 1990 Pro, we quite enjoy the sparkling highs and thought it added a touch of uniqueness to the headset’s sound signature.

The DT 990 Pro was already a very well put together headphone with the durability of the tank, and thankfully, the same is true for the DT 1990 Pro. As they’re open-back, the DT 1990 Pro are meant to be used at home or in the studio for serious analytical listening. The imaging on the DT 1990 Pro is also very good, as it makes it very easy to accurately discern the direction from which sounds originate. In 1937, Eugen Beyer developed the DT 48, the first set of dynamic headphones, followed two years later by the M 19 dynamic microphone. The immense frequency range of the beyerdynamic DT-1990 Pro extends down to an incredible 5Hz, offering a wider audio spectrum than most competitors. With this treble quality, I see some owners describe the DT1990 as being very "revealing", "detailed" and "transparent" of a recordings' flaws. You get two cables in the box, one 3-meter straight cable and another coiled cable that can reach 5 meters when stretched out. Titanium-coated acoustic fabric and carefully selected precision-woven textiles round off the balanced sound quality of these dynamic studio headphones. My other complaint is that the spring steel headband helps to keep the headphones indestructible, but it also means that these headphones clamp like a Sennheiser HD600, which contributes to the drivers touching my ears.
