About this deal

The Gerber Dime Multi Tool is a versatile and compact tool that can be carried with you anywhere. This tool features a variety of useful tools. The Gerber Dime is no one’s choice for best multi tool. It’s too small to be really useful for most tasks and too fragile to be put through serious use. Despite that, we like this little tool. It was never meant to compete with full size tools in either durability or usefulness. It’s small enough to comfortably fit on your keychain and light enough to always be with you. The Leatherman has similar features but is not as pronounced or useful. The Gerber Dime has ‘one upped’ them on the pliers. Best Scissors: Leatherman Squirt PS4 Multi-tool Now, the things that I did not like about the pliers. Even though the ergonomic handle coupled with the strong spring action makes you think that you can use it with some force to loosen stubborn nuts and bolts with, please do not. The pliers are not strong enough to handle that kind of abuse. Updated September 2023: We've added the Leatherman Raptor Rescue, SOG Parashears, and Leatherman Style PS. We've also updated pricing and availability.

This wasn’t a close call for me — the Style PS is a better tool on every front. But things may not be as cut and dry as they appear. The Winner: Leatherman Style PSLeatherman has become shorthand for “multi-tool” for a good reason. The company's build quality is fantastic. Tools can be flipped out and retracted forcefully but smoothly, and the finishing on each mini-tool is excellent. Leatherman has many options to choose from, but the Wave Plus is easily my favorite. It has two stainless steel knives, one with a straight edge and the other serrated. The latter is good for cutting fibrous material such as rope. The 420HC steel employed has a high carbon content, so the edges won't stay sharp for long, but it's easy to sharpen 'em up again. There are 16 other tools, including a wood-and-metal file, a diamond-coated file, a saw, Phillips screwdriver bits, scissors, an 8-inch ruler, and a wire stripper, as well as a bottle and can opener. We put two travel-friendly multi-tools to the test. Here, the Leatherman Style PS takes on the Gerber Dime Travel.

This is nice it has all i need in a small carry tool. replaced my CRKT kiss on my key ring, totally legal. well made solid. Along with SAK got my EDC carry requirements sorted. Well worth considering as an everyday carry option.

You don’t want to be the guy fumbling with his multi-tool before he can open a girl’s beer. Not cool. Best Blade: Gerber Dime The Gerber Dime had a hard time getting into it at all and it took some doing to get the cut you see in the picture. The Vise is a redesigned version of Gerber’s older Clutch micro multi tool. It replaces the scissors on the Dime with a second serrated knife blade but otherwise has similar tools. To be honest though, the Vise feels generally cheaper than the Dime. The pliers especially don’t feel sturdy, with numerous user reports of fatal failure.

I like this little tool but a couple of modifications would have given it 5*. The box opener is a clever idea but I actually found the knife blade better for this and the keyring loop isn't big enough so I attach my keys and torch to the bottle opener. These are minor quibbles. Quality is equivalent to the weatherman micro series. Because of its small size the Gerber Dime doesn’t really have the traditional accessories a larger multi tool would have available. The only real choices available for it are the color and finish options. Now, it’s worth mentioning that a TSA agent’s main priority is safety. If they feel like anything you have can be used as a weapon, it’s their job to make sure that doesn’t make it onto a plane. Keep in mind that that's ultimately up to the officer's discretion. That said, these tools are compliant with the most recent rules and regulations. A. The base Gerber Dime is not technically approved, given the knife blades, but there is a separate Gerber Dime Travel, with many of the same features, that is approved. Q. How big is the Gerber Dime? The Squirt has that old-school Leatherman style that looks like it’s the first tool they came out with. Personally, I find it a bit on the boring side. The Gerber Dime doesn’t have a traditional multi tool bottle/can opener combo tool. Instead the body of the tool itself is shaped into a larger bottle opener that works quite well for its intended purpose.
